If you weren’t able to make it out to the Branson Landing on the evening of June 9, you missed one entertaining show. From the pre-show performances to hilarious lip syncing antics, the second annual Choose Branson Lip Sync Clash was a massive success and plenty of people came out to enjoy it.
Emceed by Josh Grisham and Tim Church of the Nerd Informants, this duo had to get in on the lip syncing action before introducing the evening’s entertainment.
The Choose Branson Lip Sync Clash began a little differently than the previous year’s event. For 2017, we decided to add some actual music to the mix. The event began with a unique acoustic performance from Prince Ivan, titled “Prince Ivan: Unplugged.”
It was certainly different to see Prince Ivan outside of their upbeat, concert-style performances. However, they did step it up a notch on that last song. Following the trio was our second musical performance of the event. Branson’s Famous Baldknobbers brought their whole band out to play some of the hit songs from their popular show at the Branson Famous Theatre.
After the Baldknobbers concluded their electric show it was time for the real fun to begin. The band broke down their equipment and the first lip sync competitor took the stage. Going under the alias of “Kevin Bacon and the Stormy Point Bacon Bits,” the activities department at Stormy Point Village kicked off the event the right way with an incredible showing.
While that wasn’t actually Kevin Bacon, he sure looked liked him and even moved similar to his “Footloose” character. Following the “Bacon Bits” was one Branson’s best tenors and one of the competition’s best dressed contestants. George Dyer took a page out of the popular Disney movie “Moana” for his Lip Sync Clash debut.
Maybe he didn’t quite look like the demi-god, Maui, but George still put on an entertaining show. Following him to the stage was Russ Allright, Branson’s ambassador of fun and excitement, supporting Branson Zipline. Russ started out as a solo act, but received some adorable help in the middle of his performance.
Russ and his furry companion, Diskey, sure put on an impressive display. Next to take the stage was a group we saw earlier in evening. Making their second appearance was Branson’s Famous Baldknobbers, and they sure had “the time of their lives” on stage.
No, it certainly was not planned to have one of their comedians fall off the stage, but he walked away from the fall practically unscathed and even finished his performance. Following them was the other pre-show performer, and Prince Ivan put on a shocking performance to say the least.
There was a lot of music, crazy dancing and some interesting costumes during that performance. Based on the crowd reaction, it looked as if Prince Ivan were the favorites to take home the Lip Sync Clash championship belt. However, there was still one more lip sync performance and it was from the defending champions, Titanic Museum.
There was plenty of stuff going on during that showing, and the Napoleon Dynamite bit sure was entertaining. After Titanic concluded it was time to bring everyone back on stage to announce the winner. Would Titanic repeat as the champions? Would Prince Ivan steal it away from them? Or would someone else pull off an upset?
Ultimately, Prince Ivan, or “Princess Yvonne” as they were called during their intro, came away victorious. Their dance moves and velcroed pants were too much to overcome, and Stormy Point’s “Bacon Bits” were announced as the runner ups. This year’s Choose Branson Lip Sync Clash was great fun, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year’s event!
